a5c7b9f00b A vampire hunter fights to save a besieged city from an army of otherworldly creatures controlled by Dracula. When Lisa Tepes, beloved wife of Vlad Tepes AKA Dracula is acused of witchcraft and burned at the stake by an overzealous bishop, Dracula declares war on the people of Wallachia and unleashes an army of murderous demonic creatures from hell. Luckily, Trevor Belmont, last survivor of the Belmont clan, a disgraced family known for hunting all kinds of monsters, is still in town and agrees to take the fight to the lord of vampires. If you have any doubts, just watch it anyway. It's four 25-ish minute episodes that will probably change what you think you know about animated shows, if you're not usually a fan.

This show was so refreshing. Funny and dark with a great deal of well handled maturity. I can't recommend it enough. I'm one of the sinners who hasn't even played the games yet (I know I know sue me I'm getting on that) and I was enthralled. The first episode blew me away immediately. If you want to watch a beautifully animated mature show that almost reminds you of Saturday morning nostalgia (until the death and profanity appear) seriously go for this. Or just to see something you definitely haven't seen before. Castlevania isiconic in gamingDracula is in the broader world of popular culture and horror-fandoma whole. Usually the golden rule of thumb with video game adaptations is that they suck; and SUCK HARD! This one… doesn't. Wow; who'd have thought. Netflix has single-handedly broken new ground with just this series alone.

Now don't get me wrong, this series is FAR too short: four episodes and that's it for now! When do we get the rest? Will Richard Armitage come back for the second season, will we see a direct adaptation of the original Castlevania game from 1987? All the issues aside though, it's a pretty decent show that FINALLY proves video game adaptations aren't inherently bad anymore.

Another Netflix original to add to your watch-list.
